Dr David Gillespie

Dr David Gillespie’s research focuses on psychological adjustment to the diagnosis of a neurological illness. He is interested in the factors that are linked with good adjustment (e.g. positive mood, hopefulness, resilience) and the types of talking therapy that improve wellbeing. He has a particular interest in insomnia and sleep problems in people with progressive neurological conditions and investigates psychological treatments for sleep improvement.  

David leads the acute Clinical Neuropsychology Service in NHS Lothian. He qualified in clinical psychology from the University of Birmingham and then undertook a PhD in clinical neuropsychology at the Stroke Association’s Therapy Research Unit (SATRU), University of Manchester. He completed professional training in family therapy at the Institute of Human Relations, University of Strathclyde. David is an NRS (NHS Research Scotland) Clinical Research Fellow and an Honorary Clinical Fellow, Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, University of Edinburgh.
