Anne Rowling Clinic Undergraduate Scholars were among those showcasing their research and ideas at the University of Edinburgh’s two-day Edinburgh Medical School 300 (EMS 300) Medical Student Conference, held at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
The conference, themed Medicine and Healthcare – past, present and future, brought together students from across the University studying medicine and healthcare to share their research, experiences and perspectives.
The programme featured student poster presentations, workshops and keynote talks covering topics including mental health, artificial intelligence in research and self-compassion in healthcare.
There was a particularly strong showing from Rowling Undergraduate Scholars, with students presenting research linked to projects taking place through the Anne Rowling Clinic and its research community.
Year-3 medical student and Rowling Undergraduate Scholar, Susie Prentice presented ‘Diversifying research participation in MND-SMART’. Her presentation was selected as the opening platform talk in the conference’s plenary session. These presentations are usually given by students in the later stages of their medical studies or research training, making this a particularly impressive achievement for a Year-3 student.
Other presentations from the students showcased work linked to new picture tasks developed for the Voice Study, as well as handwriting tasks being developed as part of the Everyday Wearables Study.
The students’ participation highlights the breadth of research opportunities available through the Anne Rowling Clinic and the valuable contribution students are making to research into neurological conditions and healthcare.
